3 Tips for a Lasting At-Home
Manicure and Pedicure
Doing your own nails at home can save you a lot of money,
but they just don’t seem to last as long. What are you doing differently from
the nail salon? Well, here are three tips to help your manicure or pedicure
last longer, even when you do it yourself.
1. Base coat – If you want your nail polish to stay on and not
stain your nails permanently, then you need to put on a clear base coat before
you ever start painting. Not just regular clear polish here, but an actual
clear coat created for protecting your nails and providing strong adherence. A
quick dry version will help you to get to the actual color part faster.
2. Top coat –Like a base coat, a top coat is clear and created
just for that purpose. Adding a top coat as a final coat to your painted nails
will help keep the paint from chipping and also add a great shine. Like a
screen protector on your cell phone, a top coat is just a sensible precaution.
3. Let it dry – One bad thing about doing your nails at home is
the temptation to start moving around. When you have your nails done
professionally, you stay very still and let the nails dry. They even have
special lights to help the paint dry faster. However, you don’t have access to that
at home. Don’t just assume when the nails are no longer tacky that they are
dry. Wait a sufficient amount of time before using your freshly painted nails.
Depending on how many layers you used, this can be up to a couple of hours.
There are other ways to make your nail polish last longer.
One is as simple as choosing the right brand. Some brands are made for natural
nails and some for artificial, so know what you need before you buy. Your nails
can last weeks if properly maintained.
